Hut at the entrance to Middle Pier, Granton Harbour

This hut is on the left hand side of the road when entering Granton Harbour from Granton Square.  I don't know when the hut was last used.  I wonder for how much longer it will survive.   [24 June 2004.]

In the foreground are old railway lines leading from Middle Pier, Granton Harbour into West Harbour Road.  It is many decades since a train last passed along these rails.

Please click here to see another view or the building behind the hut, or here to see another view of the hut.

Thank you to Ed Thomson who wrote to tell me more about the E&M Ferry hut.  Ed wrote

"Eddie and Maurice Ferry were Haulage contractors with a garage and office at the entrance to the Middle Pier, Granton.

The hut was their fuel tank and in an earlier photo you have of the Harbour buildings the open door was the entrance to the garage.

Eddie Ferry was in business for over 50 years and he stayed in Inverleith Gardens he was a friend of Jimmy Farr who had the Wardie Garage opposite Inverleith Church."
