The Photograph his photo was taken in January 2008, from Fishmarket Square, Newhaven, looking across Newhaven Place to the former fishmarket beside Newhaven Harbour. The southern end of the fishmarket is now Loch Fyne Restaurant.

Harry Ramsden Restaurant By the early 1990s, the building had fallen into a poor state of repair. It was renovated and converted into three parts - North: a smaller fishmarket. - Central: Newhaven Heritage Museum - South: Harry Ramsden Fish Restaurant |

Loch Fyne Restaurant Another refurbishment was carried out in 2007. By then, the Harry Ramsden fish restaurant had closed. It has now become a Loch Fyne shop and restaurant. See the photograph above. Another restaurant is now due to open within the building, beside the Loch Fyne restaurant. The fishmarket is still operating. The area occupied by the Newhaven Heritage Museum (part of the Museums of Edinburgh) is still being refurbished. Will the museum return to this site? There seems to be some doubt now (in January 2008) about whether it will be able to afford the rent that will be requested. |
