Thank you to John
Ballantyne, Boswall, Edinburgh, formerly Arthur Street, Edinburgh for
allowing me to reproduce the photograph above.
John tells me that many of
the players in the Heart of Midlothian Foresters FC came from the area
around Arthur Street and used to frequent the Bowlers' Rest at the foot of
Arthur's Street beside the bowling green. |
Here is a photograph of the Heart of
Midlothian Foresters Football Club Dinner, taken in June 1962.

Thank you to
Thomas Harrison, Buckstone, Edinburgh, who wrote:
"What a great surprise to see the
Foresters team that Johnny Ballantyne sent.
What
a joy to remember those lads. They were a great football team.
If you were a footballer at all,
you would have fitted in, because the whole lot played up the Scotchie on
a Sunday for hours. I myself played for the Foresters and I will always
feel great pride in being a Forester.
I just hope that all the lads are
still with us are keeping great and enjoying retirement and the lads that
have passed on, YOU ARE NEVER FORGOTTEN."

The Team
"Jimmy Broadbent (Jr), son of the
Dumbiedykes street bookie,
Jimmy Broadbent, had a friend that everyone knew as Bally, surname
Ballantyne, who was killed in a road accident in the Inch.
My wife wonders if the person
back row last to the left is Bally.

She
says he sure looks like Bally."

I sent this
question to Joan, North of England, daughter or John Ballantyne who
provided this photograph. Joan replied:
"Yes, The person in the photograph is my Uncle
Allan and he did die from a road accident. This was back in 1970. (I
think, I was only 4 and a half.)"
