Granton

Here is an interesting view of Granton Square - for anybody interested in old transport.

This is the Granton tramway terminus, with five trams, a bus and a pram. Western Granton Harbour and some large ships are just visible in the background.

Granton Harbour

For a few years around 1990, a catamaran ferry operated between Granton Harbour and Burntisland in Fife.  There has been some recent discussion of introducing another catamaran to Fife, but as far as I know there are currently no firm plans to do so.

Now much of Western Granton Harbour has been reclaimed, and earmarked for development as part of the Edinburgh Waterfront Project.

The buildings at the centre of this picture are alongside the central pier entrance to the harbour.  To the right of the central pier (out of the picture and extending as far as the eastern breakwater) is Eastern Granton Harbour, still used by sailing boats.

Granton Square

Today, Granton Square has a larger roundabout, with the building in this picture (a public convenience) still existing.
