The Magic of Four Thousand

On Members’ Night Ko-ko will stay

As quiet as a mouse and

Reflect that loafing doesn’t pay,

And keep his fingers crossed and pray

That nobody will tell Grace A -

We might have had 4000.

Still haunted by his conscience, he

Will creep out of his house and

Slip though the entrance guiltily,

Smile wanly at the Committee,

And wonder how to face John B -

We might have had 4000.

The regulars and helpers too

Will moan and groan and grouse and

All ask each other, “Was it you?”,

(Not knowing it was Ko-ko who,

Torpedoed Sandy C’s debut) -

We might have had 4000.

“Ko-ko”
