The
second photo below is a carte de visite from his Holyrood Saloon
at 58 Canongate, Edinburgh. This is no a studio address that I
have found for him in any of the trade directories (which appear to
track his business from 1867 until 1889, when he was based at 50
Canongate and 6 Roxburgh Place - so I don't know when the photo below
might have been taken.
Maybe he was based at 58
Canongate for just a few months early in his career, and did not stay
there for long enough to feature in one of the trade directories.
The trade directories were published annually. John Marley who
sent me a copy of this photo tells me that he bought it from an antique
dealer in The Hague, and that the back of the card is plain.
