Waterfront Avenue

Junction with West Harbour Road

A New Road

Waterfront Avenue is a new road that runs north-east through the Waterfront from West Harbour Road (near the old lighthouse) past Saltire Square to join West Granton Road  near the site where the new Telford College buildings are being constructed.

Saltire Square is a new square close to the centre of the Edinburgh Waterfront site.  The square, and Waterfront Avenue, were opened in June 2004.

The 1st photograph above looks across  West Harbour Road to what is to become the junction with a new road, Waterfront Avenue.  The photo was taken from Chestnut Street, and shows an early stage of the construction of Waterfront Avenue.

The white building in the photo is still standing, but soon to be demolished.

Photo 2

Here is a view from the same position nine months later, shortly after the Waterfront Avenue was opened.

The white building has been demolished to make way for the new road, but the old railway track and grate in the road in the foreground are still in place
