October 2011
This view looks to the
south from Hanover Street towards the Royal Scottish Academy, as work
begins to dig up Princes Street after faults were found in the original
installation work carried out in 2009 to install the tram lines.
This remedial work is
expected to last from September to late-November 2011, then from
early-January to July 2012. The break of a few weeks in the middle
is to ensure that the work will not have any impact on Edinburgh's
Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The cost of the work is to
be met by the consortium headed by Bilfinger Berger. The City
of Edinburgh now estimate, at October 2011, that tram running is likely to
commence in 2014. (Trams were originally scheduled to start running
in 2011.)
