West End of Princes Street

This view of Princes Street was taken from the West End of the street, in front of the Caledonian Hotel, the photograph looks along Princes Street.  St John's church is on the Right.

This view looks along Princes Street towards the East End where Balmain photographed the horse-drawn tram a few years earlier.

Maule's Department Store

Maule's Department store is on the left.  All three trams in the photograph carry adverts for Maule's.

Many of Edinburgh's early photographers had studios in the buildings in this photograph.

George Shaw & Co were based in Maule's premises in the 1890s.
