Despite
Turnbull's last appearance in the trade directory in 1878 as Photographer,
he appears to have been actively involved with photography well beyond
that date.
At
the EPS Meeting held on 6 April 1881 he described an improved method of
washing gelatine, part of a process for making his own dry
plates. He said he had used this method constantly in the ordinary
course of business over the past twelve months.
