Opening A railway line from Edinburgh's Princes Street station to Balerno was built by the Caledonian Railway. The line opened in 1874. This line followed the valley of the Water of Leith. |

Today It is now possible to travel along a cycle track from Fountainbridge, near the centre of Edinburgh, following first the canal tow-path to Craiglockhart, then the old track of the old railway to Balerno. |
