Amongst the many thousands of postcards that Valentines issued were some showing the fishwives of Newhaven, a fishing village about three miles to the North of Edinburgh.

The postcard above has the name Valentines on the back and the initials JRRE (James R Russell, Edinburgh) on the front. I'm not sure what part was played by each of Valentines and JRRE in taking the photograph for this card and publishing it. Several postcards of other subjects include the name JRRE on the back and a photographer's name such as Moffat on the front. |
