James
Valentine, Dundee, produced many thousand post card views of Scotland,
and later of England and Wales and further afield. The company
added and removed features from their negatives, in order to keep them
commercial.
Here
is one of Valentine's postcards of Calton Hill. Rock House, the
studio used by Hill & Adamson and later by Archibald Burns, the Inglis
family and others is the house at the right of the upper street on the
left of this picture.
This
same negative was used by Valentine to produce many different post cards
over several decades. Please click
here to view other examples of this view. Also below is a
Valentine post card of a busy scene at Portobello, the seaside resort about five
miles to the east of Edinburgh, and a picture of a Newhaven
Fishwife costume taken from a Valentine postcard posted in 1906.
