It was announced in
November 2005 that development plans had been drawn up in
conjunction with S & N Breweries, British Waterways and developers,
for the site of the former S & N brewery beside the Union Canal.
It is proposed to build
offices and around 400 houses on this site and that these will be
situated around a 'mini-marina' near Viewforth Bridge.
It is expected that the South Fountainbridge site will be bought,
at a cost of at least £60m, by the consortium that acquired the
nearby North Fountainbridge site - developers AMA (New Town) Ltd,
Grosvenor and Royal Bank of Scotland
