I found this to be a small, but interesting exhibition.

There are 16 large aerial photos of Edinburgh, all from RCAHMS' extensive archive of Aerofilms photographs taken between 1919 and 1953.

The photos show just how different  some areas of Edinburgh used to be in an era when the city had more industry.

I visited the Exhibition this afternoon.  There were 49 photos taken during World War II on display, including 24 from Edinburgh Libraries' Capital Collections web site and 8 from Scotsman Publications Ltd.  I had not seen most of the photos previously.

This Exhibition and a play 'Leith at War' at the same venue was one part of the Leith Festival, 14-22 June, 2014, The exhibition remains open after the end of the Leith Festival, until 27 June.

Liz Hare of Citadel Arts Group writes:

"Do look in to see some great photos from private collections and from the Edinburgh Museums and Libraries which may bring back memories for Leith's older residents!"

The London Salon

A selection of prints from the 2014 London Salon is on display in the Downstairs Gallery at 68 Great King Street

This London Salon of Photography web site gives brief details of the Salon.

The Salon currently has 42 Members - all prominent  photographers in their own fields.  These include, from Scotland:

-  Sandy Cleland (Edinburgh)

-  Rikki O'Neill (Newport on Tay)

Membership of the Salon is by invitation only.  It has been holding its Annual Exhibition of Photography since the early- 1900s.

Neil Scott (EPS Members' Exhibition Secretary) writes:

"The London Salon is one of the best print-only salons around - indeed the main ethos of the London Salon is to host an annual print exhibition, which is shown at selected venues in Britain.

Edinburgh is the only Scottish venue, the others being London, Smethwick and Bath."
