Rev Thomas Milville Raven

Photographer and Vicar at Bedale

Rev Thomas Milville Raven joined the Photographic Society of Scotland in 1856, the year that the Society was founded.  He later moved south to England, where he founded St Mary Magdalene Church in Langthorne, Bedale, Yorkshire.

He became vicar of the church, and his grave is in the church grounds.

The church has now been converted to housing.  The present owners hope to restore some of the architectural detail as near as possible to its original state.  They are looking for photos taken by Rev Thomas Milville Raven to help them achieve this.

Question

Do you know of any research into the photography of Rev Thomas Milville Raven, or if any of his photographs have survived?

If so, please contact me so that I can pass on the message to Mark Newman who now lives in the vicarage in North Yorkshire, where Rev Raven stayed for 30 years.

Thank you.  -  Peter Stubbs, Mar 30, 2009
