Stereo Views of Edinburgh

Here are two of the many sets of stereo photographs published by Thomas Begbie.  There are many Begbie pictures on this web site.

Most are taken from stereo pairs,  but only one image has been shown in most cases.

These two views looking east from the Scott Monument  were not taken simultaneously.

The positions of the small coaches in Princes Street are different, and there is more movement in the coaches in the left-hand image.  Two pedestrians on the right-hand image above the lamp-post (barely visible above, but clear on the original negative) have become one on the left-hand image.

The Nelson Monument on Calton Hill is clear on the left-hand image but not visible on the right.  The National Monument on Calton Hill is not visible in either picture.  These monuments may have been visible on both pictures originally, and have since faded.
