John Moffat

Daguerreotype

Photo 1

Thank you to Ernst Massen for telling me about a daguerreotype by Moffat that he is offering for sale on the German eBay web site.

The photo was offered for sale over 7 days ending 23 October 2005 with a reserve price of Euro 79.  With three days to go there had been no bids.

The photo was in a leather case with the inscription on the outside:

60 PRINCES STREET

MOFFAT

EDINBURGH

60 Princes Street was Moffat's studio address from 1858 to 1860.

Thank you  also to James Irvine Robertson, Aberfeldy, Perthshire, Scotland, for telling me about another Moffat Daguerreotype.  James wrote:

"I have a daguerreotype of a woman with

MOFFAT

19 PRINCES STREET

embossed on the red leather frame. The identity of the sitter is suspected and she died in 1856."
