Thank you also to James Irvine Robertson, Aberfeldy, Perthshire, Scotland, for sending me the above image of a Daguerreotype by John Moffat and its case. James tells me that he believes that the person in the photograph died in 1856. The photograph is in a red leather frame, embossed 'Moffat, 19 Princes Street'. John Moffat was listed in the Edinbrugh trade directories at this address for just two years, 1856 to 1858. So it seems reasonable to date this photo 1856. |
