Richard Bee - Fishmonger
Richard is due to retire soon and expects the business to pass on to
another member of his family. His family has been selling fish
from fish shop since 1905. Richard started selling in his
father's shop in the Royal Mile on leaving school in 1965.
He then moved to a fish shop in Leith, then took over 'Something
Fishy' at the top of Broughton Street around 1999.
Something Fishy had been run by his brother, John Croan Bee, for the
previous 22 years. The family is related to John Croan who used to
run the kipper factory beside Newhaven Harbour. |

McDonald Road Library
2-4 McDonald Road
'The Broughton Mural'
This mural
was created by local artists, Charlie Miller (who designed it),
Martin Lauder,
David Aitken and Gordon Mitchell, with research by Alice Lauder
and John Dickie
and assistance from Elm Birse, Owen Stanesby, Jean and Walter
Faulkner.
After being first shown at
a Local History Exhibition in 1995, the mural was presented to Broughton Local History Society in 1996 to be held on behalf of the local
community. It can now be seen on the wall of the Nelson Hall at McDonald Road Public
Library.
