Introduction
Everybody will have their own interests and
favourite subjects for photography:
- Landscapes
- Portraits
- Sport
- Nature
- etc.
From my own point of view, I prefer:
- Documentary
I like
to work in themes, as this helps me to gradually learn more a
subject, and takes me to places that I might not otherwise get to.
I keep
starting new themes, but still continue some of the old ones. I have
been working on some for over 20 years.
I try
to take photos that I think might be interesting to look back on
in the future - but who knows?
I've
learnt to take photos when I think of an idea or see an
opportunity. I may be able to get a better image later, but
quite often I find that things have changed and it has become no
longer possible to capture the original image that I saw.
Here are just a few photos on each of four of
the
themes.

Theme 1.
Scottish Railway Stations
Scotland has a wide variety of stations, urban
and rural.
I have photographed about 90% of them and have added a small
proportion of the photos to the EdinPhoto web site.
Many of the stations are now unmanned.
Some of the lines in the more remote areas have been threatened with closure in the past,
but they still survive with just a few trains running per day.
Here are a few photos from my 'Scottish Railway
Stations' project.

Edinburgh at Work
Since 1990, I've visited and photographed over
200 companies in Edinburgh. Many of these companies have,
unfortunately, already gone out of business.
Others have moved premises or changed in other
ways, so most of the photos in this project could not be repeated
today.
Here is a very small collection of the photos
from the 'Edinburgh at Work' project. |

Edinburgh Shops
I keep returning to a few of the Edinburgh
streets lined with shops, to see how they have changes since my
previous visit - Prince Street, Dalry Road, Raeburn
Place, Leith Walk, Victoria Street, Cockburn Street, etc.
Some of the shops have changed hands five or six
times, since I first visited them in the early-1990s, with each new owner giving the
shop a 'new look'.
So far, I have added only a very small
proportion of my 'Edinburgh Shops' photos to the EdinPhoto web
site. Here are a few of them.

Edinburgh Bus Termini
Most of the Lothian Buses termini are situated
around the edge of the city. Several of the bus services
have been extended to new termini, over the years, as the city has
expanded.
There have also been other changes, as Lothian
Buses have introduced 'Route Branding' with buses for several of
the routes having their own liveries.
If Edinburgh ever gets trams, there will no
doubt be more changes in the bus termini.
I thought it might be interesting to photograph
all the bus termini now, then see how they change in the future.
I have now photographed them all and added many
of the photos to the EdinPhoto web site. Here are a few of
the photos.
