"This photo is definitely of the staff and students of the Dick Veterinary College, in the courtyard at Clyde Street, Edinburgh. I've never see it before until tonight, and its the first carte des visite sized veterinary group photo I’ve seen." Date? "Well, I think I recognise the Principal Prof. Walley who was in Office from 1874 to 1894. I could probably narrow down the date of the photo if I could see a higher resolution image." Hi Colin: "Thanks for your reply. That's very helpful." Date? "In fact, one of the James Howie photographers had a studio at 60 Princes Street (or at 60b Princes Street, but used the 60 Princes Street address on the back of his cartes de visite) throughout the period 1864 to 1890. So, I think we can narrow down the date of the photo a little further, and assume that it would have been taken during the period 1874 to 1890." Peter Stubbs, Edinburgh: November 13, 2013 |
