I have not seen the front of this carte de visite but the back is interesting, and, in my experience unusual, in showing: "Under the distinguished patronage of ..." © Reproduced by courtesy of James Hadden The number on the back of the carte de visite above is high. This suggests that the photograph was taken at a fairly late date. The Howie studio was based at 60 Princes Street, sometimes described as 60b Princes Street for 26 years beginning 1864:
