Edinburgh Castle was a popular
subject for both Alex A Inglis and his son, Francis Caird Inglis.
Here are the postcards of Edinburgh that I have found by Francis Caird
Inglis.
1. Views of The
Scottish National War Memorial, Edinburgh Castle
Sepia
These cards all bear the legend: 'Francis Caird
Inglis, Photogrpaher to His Majesty in Edinburgh', and have a
brief description of the subject, on the back of the card.
Many have numbers in the stamp box.
The numbers I have seen range from 1 to 36, but some numbers are
duplicated for 'Castle' and 'other' views.
(a) 'Nine Post Cards
1/-' pack
There is a note on the back of the
pack saying: 'Large photographs of any of these pictures may be
obtained.' These brief titles of the contents are listed on
the front of the pack:
- Exterior from the South
West
- Gallery of Honour
- South East Bay
- Royal Scots Memorial
- Cameron Highlanders'
Memorial
- Nursing Services Memorial
- Women's Services Memorial
- Mercantile Marine Memorial
- Royal Naval Memorial.
The contents of my pack differed a
little from the descriptions on the front of the pack. The third
card in the pack appears to have been substituted by a variation
of the second card. My pack contains cards titled:
- Scottish National War
Memorial from the South West

Question
NOTE: Alan Provan tells me
that he has most of the cards in this series up to No 38.
He is trying to complete the series, and wonders if No 38 is the
highest number in the series. If you can answer this
question, please email me, then I'll pass on your message to Alan.
Thank you. - Peter Stubbs: May 28, 2009
