The National Galleries

An Underground Link

An underground  link between the Royal Scottish Academy and the National Gallery of Scotland is being created.  There will be a circular glass lift, and access from a concourse area overlooking Princes Street Gardens, together with new educational and visitor facilities.  This work is due to be completed in summer 2005.

An Underground Link

In the artist's impression in view 1 (above) the new access to the galleries can be seen in the centre of the picture immediately above the grass area.  The grass area has been used as a putting green in the summer and an ice skating rink in the winter.

View 2 (below) also shows the proposed extension, but this view is from the south with an outline of the Princes Street buildings in the background.
