For maps
of Edinburgh and elsewhere in Britain today,
I recommend
the Multimap
web site.
The
Multimap site displays maps for post-codes.
It also has Edinburgh web-cams.

For
old maps of Edinburgh and
elsewhere
I recommend the
NLS map site.
This site
displays many images from the National Library of Scotland's extensive
collection of maps.

This
Old Maps web site is provided by Landmark Information
Group. It provides access to a wide range of old and
recent Ordnance Survey maps which can be accessed using place
names, addresses or co-ordinates.
It may also be a useful way of finding
postcodes for addresses in the UK.
The site includes 1854 maps, modern maps and
aerial views, and can zoom-in and zoom-out.

Scotsman Digital Archive
The archive of The Scotsman newspaper from its
first edition in
1817 to 1900 is now available on line. Soon the archive is to be
extended to 1900, and eventually to the
present day.
There is a charge for daily (or longer) access. I
have found this to be good value for money in terms of the amount of
information available and the ease with which it can be accessed through
keyword searches. |
