Shops
What Next?
1. I'm continuing to photograph shops as I see them
change over the years.
I have a large collection of shop
photos waiting to be added to the web site.
2. I've started photographing:
- Barber Shops throughout
Edinburgh.
- Tattoo Shops throughout
Edinburgh.
- shops with interesting names
throughout Edinburgh
- shops with numbers in their
names throughout Edinburgh
- shops with letters missing in
their names throughout Edinburgh *
* I started photographing the missing
letter shops after taking photos of this shop near the top of Cockburn Street in
the 1990s:

Snack Bars are common sites
beside the streets in Edinburgh, but many of them don't stay
around for very long.
Within a few weeks of taking my
first photos of Edinburgh snack bars, I found that:
- one had moved to a
different location.
- one had been destroyed
in a fire
- one had been stolen.
Here are some of my photos of
the snack bars:

A Third Picture
Thank you to Neil Lawrence for
also noticing that there was also a picture on the right-hand side of this box,
and photographing it for me (below). Calton Hill and the Scott
Monument can be seen in the background of this picture
I returned to check what was
on the back of the box (the side that's against the wall) but found that
it was still painted blue. |

A brief note about the K6 box in National
Geographic magazine said:
- The K6 was the most popular style of box.
- It was designed in 1936 to

- Some have now been sold and put to other
uses:
- One at Westbury-sub-Mendip in Somerset has
been converted into a small library.
- One at Settle in North Yorkshire has been
converted into a small art gallery.
