1892 Members' Exhibitions
|
Opening
In the summer of 1892 Edinburgh Photographic
Society hosted the Photographic Convention of the United Kingdom.
The 1892-93 season opened with the EPS Members'
Exhibition in November. It opened, as the British Journal of
Photography reported "in the somewhat novel
way with a smoking concert"

Wilson
British Journal of Photography (BJP)
reported:
[BJP, 1892, pp762-3]
"... it was almost a new
experience to have such a number of fine works by G W Wilson of
Aberdeen, such as 'Bait Gatherers on the Beach 'and the many pictures
of fisher fold of Footdu (Fitdé) with their spoils from the deep (in
one instance in a clothes basket) to the studies of the older people
depicted in 'Peace' and 'Retired from the Sea' and all given in the
nearest approach to the effect of sepia drawings with the added touch
which photography alone can give. ..." |
Attendance
The
exhibition was fairly well attended. However, there were pleas
for it to be kept open a little longer, on the grounds that it had
probably not been sufficiently advertised.
But
EPS decided that this was not practical. There being no
admission charge, this would have proved too expensive.
