EPS
1952
Open Exhibition
The
exhibition was held during the Edinburgh Festival. The exhibition
opened in August 1952, at YMCA Exhibition Hall, 4 Queen Street, It
was reported that:
"The Hall was greatly enhanced by the flowers provided, as
far as possible, by members … who have thrown their gardens open for
plundering by the ladies responsible."
Over
1,000 prints were received from 420 entrants, from which 190 were
accepted. Five EPS members' prints were accepted. The
Exhibition made a loss of £80
including "a
loss of "£40 in the advertising due to an error that will not
recur".
It was agreed that:
"Next year, there will be an enlarged catalogue that will
include more adverts and increased charges for these."
The
next Open Exhibition, in 1953 did indeed make a substantial profit.
