The
judges, considering the subject of Pictorial Photography wrote:
"The
devotees of pictorial photography, however, use the term “pictorial” in
quite a narrow sense. They are
concerned mainly with conveying ideas rather than in photographing things
and places. Their work may or may not be factual. It usually appears to be so.
They try to suggest some attribute or some special aspect of the
subject. They try to stimulate
feeling or depict life. They
are supremely interested in the wonder and beauty of light.
As in other forms of graphic art, their work may follow tradition ,
or it may be a feeling along channels more difficult to understand.
There
is very wide scope for differences of opinion about the results.
Inevitably, every visitor will disapprove of some work hung, and no
two visitors will agree in their disapproval." |
