1937 Open Exhibition

Exhibitors

The exhibition was held in two rooms at 16 Royal Terrace, the larger room being devoted to landscape and general subjects.  Exhibitors included:

-  AW Hill:  A well lighted and arranged "Crail"

-  ER Yerbury:  A "Nude Study" and "The Awakening" 

"The Awakening" was exhibited in London in 1935 and was awarded an honours diploma at the South African International Salon of Photography held at the British Empire Exhibition at Johannesburg in 1938.

-  AH MacLucas:  A well-characterised portrait

 

The Exhibition

It was reported that:

"There are some intriguing studies of cats in the exhibition.  One in which a black cat with white patches is complimentary in a remarkable way to its companion, a white cat with black patches 'Nach de Jause' is by J Denkstein" 

and:

"The central position is given to an impressive full length portrait of HM King George VI, which is lent by E Drummond Young, and not in competition.  His Majesty is seen in Highland costume with an appropriate background.
